Three Steps celebrates our Winemakers craft from the vineyard to winery to table. Our vineyards are located at Broke in the Hunter Valley region of NSW where ten blocks of chardonnay are harvested separately to maximize complexity and provide a range of characters to this outstanding wine.

Hope Estate has 55 hectares of vines in the Broke/Fordwich region of the Hunter Valley.
Hope Estate was founded by Michael Hope and his family in 1994.
Our 2006 chardonnay is another great example of my favourite - a complex,
balanced yet fresh style. The French oak fermentation has added complexity
without dulling the wine while the crisp citrus characters keeps the palate
refreshed. This is what chardonnay is meant to taste like.

This is a full bodied, richer style of merlot. A dry year has given concentrated
characters and complexity with typical Hunter earthiness leading to a long
finish. An elegant merlot with serious weight!

Hope Estate has 55 hectares of vines in the Broke/Fordwich region of the Hunter Valley. The Hunter is the oldest wine region in Australia and was first planted in 1820.
Our 2006 Shiraz is a great example of typical Hunter Valley Shiraz, earthy
and peppery with generous fruit. By using a combination of fermentation
methods: tank, open ferment and oak, we have obtained a complex and
satisfying Shiraz that you will love to drink.

Hope Estate has 28 hectares of vines at Donnybrook, in the Geographe region of Western Australia. The cabernet and merlot grapes are crushed on the west coast and then transported by truck across the Nullabor Plains to the Hunter Valley on the east coast where they are fermented and bottled. The must is chilled for this three day road trip and arrives with amazing colour and tannin extraction.
“The Cracker” is an amazing wine. With the extended cold maceration we
have achieved dense colour and flavours that are not overdone. It’s a wine I
describe as elegantly big as it shows the best of the cooler West Australian
climate as the merlot nicely rounds out the cabernet characters. Truly a
Cracker!

“The Ripper” is a wine that I’m immensely proud of. The extended cold
maceration can be seen in the vibrant colour and tannin structure of the wine.
While exhibiting the classic Aussie shiraz plum and spice characters there is a deep elegance to the wine from the West Australian climate. Truly a Ripper!

The Virgin Hills vineyard of Hope Estate has 13 hectares of vines in the Macedon Ranges region of Victoria. Located at the foot of the Great Dividing Range the area is described as “marginal” due to low temperatures and strong winds. This challenging climate produces very intense flavours from low yielding vines.
The vines were planted in 1968 and to this day are still dry grown without irrigation.
The Washington Post has described wines from Virgin Hills as “possibly the greatest red wine you’ve never heard of”.
A stunning, dry grown, cool climate wine. This is from our famous Virgin Hills vineyard and our first release of the shiraz malbec blend. Every year we taste the shiraz and malbec as individual parcels and we comment how great they are. Well finally we’re going to release this fun blend. The malbec adds some interesting berry characters to the shiraz.
